Florida Premarital Preparation Course

Florida residents have the option of completing a State-approved Premarital Preparation Course before applying for a marriage license. While the course is not required to get married, completing it provides important benefits, including a reduced marriage license fee and the waiver of Florida's three-day waiting period.

Who Should Take the Course?

If at least one applicant is a Florida resident and you would like to avoid the mandatory three-day waiting period, both applicants should complete an approved Premarital Preparation Course before applying for your marriage license.

Non-Florida residents are not required to complete the course and are not subject to the waiting period.

When Should We Complete the Course?

The course must be completed before applying for your marriage license. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate that must be presented to the Clerk of Court when you apply for your license.

To avoid any last-minute issues, we recommend completing the course at least one to two weeks before your marriage license appointment.
