Several Florida counties offer mail-away or online marriage license services for out-of-state couples. These programs allow couples to complete much of the marriage license process before traveling to Florida for their wedding.
While procedures vary by county, most mail-away and online programs follow a similar process:
• Complete the marriage license application provided by the issuing Clerk of Court.
• Submit copies of valid government-issued photo identification.
• Complete any required forms or affidavits.
• Attend a virtual appointment or submit notarized documents, depending on the county's requirements.
• Pay the applicable marriage license fee.
Once approved, the Clerk of Court will issue your Florida marriage license according to that county's procedures.
Mail-away and virtual marriage license programs allow many destination wedding couples to complete the majority of the licensing process before arriving in Florida, reducing the need for courthouse appointments during their wedding trip.
We recommend beginning the process at least 30 to 60 days before your wedding date to allow adequate time for document processing, appointments, mailing, and any county-specific requirements.
Even if your marriage license is obtained through a mail-away or virtual program, the license must be valid and available on your wedding day before your ceremony can be legally performed.
