Step 3: Understand the Waiting Period

Florida law may require a waiting period between the issuance of your marriage license and the date your ceremony can legally take place.

If at least one applicant is a Florida resident and no approved premarital preparation course has been completed, Florida law requires a three-day waiting period before the marriage license becomes effective.

Non-Florida residents are not subject to the waiting period and may marry immediately after obtaining their license.
